Perilla seed oil is currently believed to contain higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids than any other plant oil. It does not have a strong smell like fish oil, while it also contains less than half the number of double bond reactants as fish oil, is more stable, and is lower in cholesterol.
Perilla has long been used in health food production in Japan, where R&D developments have been significant. In May 1990, perilla was chosen as part of the NCT Formula Program.
