What is Sea Buckthorn?
Sea buckthorn is a potent, medicinal plant that grows naturally in Shanxi, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, and other cold and dry mountainous regions in China. It is widely recognized as being the most nutritionally well-balanced plant (containing 200 active elements essential to the human body), and thereby holds important medicinal value. The benefits of sea buckthorn oil are especially reputed (it is known to many as “Life’s Soft Gold”). Sea buckthorn oil gained US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in 1997.

Thought to date back 200 million years, sea buckthorn is one of the most ancient plants on earth, and is older than gingko (approx. 100 million years) and cyatheaceae (approx. 180 million years). Sea buckthorn grows in mountainous and desert regions at altitudes of over 2,000 meters. The highest quality sea buckthorn plants grow in more extreme conditions, i.e.: in places with summer temperatures of more than 30°C, winter temperatures of less than -30°C, and in arid areas with little or no rainfall.
