What is an oligo-saccharide?
An oligo-saccharide is a saccharide polymer containing three to ten single sugars.
Oligo-saccharides ferment in the human body to aid the intake of minerals, in particular calcium and magnesium. Oligo-saccharides contain 20%-70% the sugar of sucrose, posses a similar flavor, and produce 0–2.5 Kcal/gm. Oligo-saccharides are therefore now widely used as low-calorie sweeteners.
